Astrid Andersen AW18
Danish Designer Astrid Andersen took inspiration from the Buffalo era for this AW18 collection. She paid homage to the mid 80’s through her garments giving a collection that was dripping in electric gold and had silks bursting with blues and blacks and worked with SAGA furs, a sustainable fur company.
Andersen spoke and about her inspiration saying “When I look at the Buffalo era it is about this open-mindedness, no thinking about race or gender or anything, breaking all the boundaries.”
The collection put emphasis on genderless fashion breaking the rules to make a new normal, which is much needed as times are progressing and the world evolving. In a time where people are coming out as gender fluid and non binary collection like these are important as they allow people to dress in a way that they want to with out being conformed to gender stereotypes. She has helped to give more freedom when choosing how you want to dress.
The garments are mixed up of oversized jackets and baggy trousers to give elongated silhouettes. Shawl collars, jacquard weaves and tweed patterns keep in tune with the feel of the eclectic buffalo era.
This collection was daring in the way she plaid around withe shapes and garments for example producing a golden balaclava that glistens in when the light hits the fabric. Balaclava’s are not something that is normally seen on a catwalk but this wasn’t the only form of headwear to be tried, there were cowboy hats as well as bandanas showcased too.
Although this was a AW18 “mens” collection there is also womens collection with the garments shown at Copenhagen Fashion Week.
