D&G v Asos
Dolce and Gabanna £2000 Asos £85
The raison d'etre for blazers and tuxs has expanded beyond your best friend's wedding and the formal work do’s scheduled in the new year. 2018 collections confirm there is more you can do with a suit, as Etro, McQueen and Sandro bring more variations in bolder colours, new structures and rich textures.
Dolce and Gabbana (pictured left) have brought extra colour to the scene through their collection of tux blazers in lurex jacquard and satin contrasts priced at £2k.
If that’s slightly out of your budget, ASOS have followed suit, their jacket is embellished in gold fish jacquard; looking closely the raised texture is visible, finished off with gold thread to give the same tapestry effect as the high end jackets, and it includes a single button opening, functional pockets to keep your essentials and the notched lapel isn’t too aesthetically different to the D&G peak lapel.
The beauty of the jacquard fabric is that it’s achieved by raising and lowering specific threads to allow allowing for changes in colour and texture at the surface, which creates a raised texture, adding to its richness as a bonus it’s a tough fabric which requires minimal ironing. Put on your favourite tee, some casual slim fit jeans, then throw on the rich blazer and you’ve upgraded your casual look and become the magnet in the room.
