Fashion & I
I appreciate fashion for it's ability to be art, communication and self expression all in one. I wasn't always conscious about my fashion choices but as I grew up, I was more aware of the colours, styles and shapes that I like and why I liked them.
I like neutral, muted and dark colours.
The way I see it, in fashion, I think of colours as indicators of emotions. To be more specific, indicators of how conspicuous said emotions are.
I have always been very to my self with my emotions. Like everyone else, I experience different emotions, but the difference lies in how obvious I make those emotions. Wearing black doesn't mean I'm not as happy as someone in (blinding) yellow. I probably just won't be as obvious with that happiness.
I like interesting shapes.
This stems from my absolute hate for the relative lack of shapes in mens clothing. Men (understandably so) are thought to have the "1" shape, and that strongly influences the fit of most of our clothes. I enjoy interesting shapes and I am always looking to make my "1" figure a bit more interesting. I usually opt for huge jackets / coats and high waisted, wide legged pants to add volume and make interesting shapes with my clothes.
I like 90's style.
I still need to work on my style references and era. But from what I know (pictures of my parents in the 90's, music videos, Fresh Prince and Sex and The City) the 90's seems like an Era for fashion that I'd really be into. It had a tendency to be quite simple but still made a statement. I also appreciated some of the oversized clothes and how they played with shape and volume.
I'm still getting my head around some of the excessive prints (looking at you Fresh Prince) but overall, I think 90's highly influences my style.
